I showed him my necklace. "it's a black Dahlia flower. My grandma gave it to me" it was the sign of a witch. But he didn't know that. A brown haired girl walked past the fountain. Temp tensed up. "what's up Tempie?" I asked, grinning.

Kestrel walked past the fountain, paying no attention to me whatsoever. I pulled a face, feeling like she should've at least swallowed her pride and said hi, considering our very unique history. "See that girl there?" I bobbed my chin at Kes, who was already pretty far away. When Barbie was preoccupied with looking for the delightful Ms. Savage, I childishly stuck my tongue out at Kestrel. It's amazing how much better you feel after doing something like that. "Yeah, we have history." I admitted. "She's a good friend of mine." Not that I'd tell her that anymore. I eyed Barbie for a moment, biting the inside of my cheek thoughtfully. "Have you been at Embers long?" I asked., my brow furrowing curiously.

I suspected something more between them. It seemed like he wasn't very happy to see her. "Since yesterday" I answered him. "Why?" I asked, cautiously. It seemed like he was plotting something. . .

"So you wouldn't know many people then?" I pressed further. Hm, Leon might like this one. Vulgar, snappy, filled with a kick-ass attitude... Yeah, his type. Not that I liked my brother much, or at all really. It was part of the agreement. One human, to keep the ring. But there was so much more than my ring at stake; everything I'd confided in him, and everything he knew would be leaked to the one human I actually cared for. Three guesses who that could be. I didn't know why he'd need a human to be given to him as a gift. Its not like he couldn't just go get one himself. No, he was planning something; but here's the thing, I haven't discovered what yet. She looked a little weary. "Nah, I'm just asking because I take it you wouldn't really know a lot of people on campus then?" I waited till she confirmed she did not. "Alrighty then," I clapped my hands together. "Lets go change that, shall we?" I stood, then held my hand out for her to take. She still looked weary, and I chuckled darkly "Don't worry, I don't bite." Befriend her. Make her trust me. Then pass her to Leon. Seemed simple enough.

He was up to something. Something that would benefit him and probably end up getting me in trouble. Nonetheless, I played along, maybe I could turn this around on him. Only if he was trying to screw me over of coarse. "Alright" I said getting up, without his help. He began walking and I followed him, not really knowing where we were going. "Pray tell, where are we going?" I asked, pushing my hair back from my eyes.

I grinned. "Is this little place on fifth; Bo Greysons place." I told her, leading the way down the alley. "Ever been there?" I asked. She didn't look the type to have ever been to Bo's, but you never knew these days. "Arcade, casino, bar and lounge, the works. Sound ike your kind of place?" I wondered if she played pool. She didn't look like the pool type, or the gambling type, but again, you never knew.

It didn't really sound like my usual night out. I looked at my watch, it was after eight. "If it had drink, I'm in" I shrugged. I was also pretty good at pool. I followed him and we didn't talk much along the way. Inside it was full of gamblers playing cards, pool, roulette and other games. It really wasn't my sort of place but I wasn't showing it. "So why did you take me here Temp?" I asked, my eyes lying on the bar.

I threw her a cue. "Pool is better played with two people," I grinned, setting up the game. "Devlin!" I heard someone say. I knew that voice... I turned with my teeth clenched to see Arion approaching with his right hand outstretched to his side and a pool cue in his left. I raised my right hand and swung it out for him, grabbing his hand as he swung his to me. "Arion," We bumped shoulders and he patted my back. My favorite handshake that was; it was easy to hide your dislike for someone when all you were required to do was bump shoulders. "Didn't know you still came 'ere," Arion chuckled. "You still play?" "I'm sorry, but I can't take you seriously with that fur on your face," I pointed to his thick handlebar mustache. It looked like his shaver attacked him and he just about fought it off. "Ay," He sighed, "It didn't end up the way I'd planned exactly. Who's this young fish, 'ere?" I frowned a little; fish? No wonder the man couldn't get a date. "Barbie, Arion, Arion, Barbie." Introduced them, then dusted the tip of my cue.

I dusted my cue while Tempie talked to his friend. "Sup?" I said, saluting Arion with two fingers. "A friend of Temperance's I'm guessing?" This guy needed a shave as much as I needed a haircut. "You gunna buy me a drink, Tempie?" I asked him, nodding fiestas the bar.

"Yeah, Tempie, buy the woman a drink," Arion smirked, obviously amused by my new nickname. I suppose it was only because he failed to come up with one himself. I sighed. "What do you want?" She gave me her order, and I made my way to he bar. Jeez, it felt so much better to be away from them, even just to get drinks.

I leaned against the pool table with my cue in hand, waiting for Tempie to come back with the drink. I didn't like Arion much if I was being perfectly honest. "So Barbie-" he started. "The name's Frankie" I interrupted him. "Frankie is a very sexy name for a very sexy lady" he said, coming closer to me. "Nice try but I don't do guys" I said, walking past him before he could get too close. I sat down at a nearby table just as Devlin came back with the drinks.

"Here," I passed Frankie her drink, ignoring Arion completely. He noticed, and seemed a little irritated by it. "And mine?" He demanded. "And your what?" I asked, sipping my beer indifferently. He folded his arms around his cue. "Drink?" "I'm good thanks." I held up my beer, suppressing a grin. His nostrils flared a little, and with that mustache it made him look like an angry wildebeest. "Fine," He growled. "Fine. Lets play." He nodded at the pool table. "Play for what? My drink?" I raised an eyebrow, smirking. But I knew that expression of his, and when his eyes shifted to Frankie I knew he was thirsty, but not for a beer. I discreetly clenched my teeth. "No," He grinned, for a split second his eyes flashed red. Thirsty. "For her." I looked to Barbie, my eyebrows raised while I waited for her opinion. I had no problem with it.

I really didn't like that guy. I swore I saw a flash of red in his eyes when he looked at me. It couldn't have. Temperance looked at me as if asking permission to gamble me. He looked like he was actually contemplating it. "Don't even try it" I said, narrowing my eyes at Devlin. I got up and took a mouthful of my beer. "I think it's time for me to go"

Go? Hm, probably not the best idea. I watched Arions eyes follow her as she left. "Don't even think about it," I warned seriously. If he did try anything, I would have no problem taking him down. I'd been looking for an excuse to kick some sense into him ever since I met him fifty four years ago. "Uh huh," He grinned. "Well, not that this hasn't been fun, but..." He took my drink from my hands and downed the last few mouthfuls. I sat there, my eyebrows raised so high they nearly vanished into my hairline... He did not just do that... He wiped his mouth "Thanks," He said, throwing me back the empty bottle before leaving the building. I sighed; "One," I checked my nails. "Two," I folded my arms and scanned the room. "Three," Right, now I'll leave. I smashed the bottle against the table, breaking off its bottom to create a very pointy weapon and, grabbing my trademark jacket, I followed him out.

Temperance had another thing coming if he thought I'd let him gamble for me. Asshole. It was cold outside and all I had on was a t-shirt. I kept walking, not wanting to look uncomfortable in a place like this. Suddenly someone grabbed my arm from behind. I swing around to face Arion. "Get the fuck away from me" I hissed at him. "What's wrong Barbie?" he asked. I saw the flash of red in his eyes again. I knew I wasn't imagining it. I kneed him in the balls and he let go of my arm long enough for me to make a run back towards the bar. I didn't trust Devlin much but he was my only hope right now. But it was no use, Arion had caught up unnaturally fast. "Nice try bitch" he grinned, his teeth gleaming. They were very sharp looking. He leaned in towards my neck. I tried to loosen his grip on me but he was too strong. Ah shit.
