I mindlessly played with the black tie in my hands as I enjoyed the feel of the sun on my pale skin. It was about noon and I was casually sitting underneith a big oak tree, music blaring in my ears. Gah, Embers was pretty dull on Saturdays. One thought consumed my mind completely, no matter how much I tried to make it otherwise. And that thought, was Kestrel. I caught myself smiling and I corrected it; I was going soft. I ran the tie through my fingers thoughtfully. How was I going to do it? 'Kestrel, I realised that you mean the world to me and--' Nah, too sappy. I'd be going all sentimental and whatnot if I began with that cheesy line. C'mon Dev, think! 'Kes, I'm not sure how to ask this--' Nope, that made me just sound like I'd never asked a girl out before. I had definatly asked girls out before. Not one no either, I would just like to point out. Okay, hows about plain and simple 'Kestrel, do you want to go to dinner with me tomorrow night?' There. Simple and classy. I glanced up at the grounds, noticing alot of familiar faces but my eyes setting on one face in particular. Kestrels. I smiled and stood up, dusting myself off as I walked over to her. She was sitting with a group of unfamiliars, who were all watching me curiously. I smiled at Kestrel. "Hey--" I began when she cut me off. "Do I know you?" She raised her eyebrows as I raised mine. "Kestrel," Her expression changed as I said her name. "Its me, Devlin?" I felt the tie in my hand and smiled a little.

[NAANEES POV]
"Hey, sorry," I blinked twice and stood up with him, smiling warmly. I could tell from his paleness, he was some kind of demon. I wondered how Kestrel knew him... I noticed he was fiddling with a tie in one of his hands; I smirked a little. He was really good looking, and probably not that clever. "I'll see you guys later," I waved to the crowd I'd been hanging with. The girls smiled warmly -- the guys all made slight noises of objection, but I imagined decided against saying anything. Of course they didn't want me to leave -- I was gorgeous, wasn't I? "So," I smiled charmingly at the boy who'd approached me. "What's up?" I asked, sitting on the park wall and leaning forward. "How's your life going?" I asked, biting my lip, exactly the way Kestrel always did. I'd picked up her habits along the years -- learned how to be just like her. "What's wrong?" I frowned, noticing he looked kind of nervous.

I ran a hand through my hair nervously. "Nothings wrong per se..." I trailed off. Oh shit, why was this so difficult all of a sudden?? "Do you want to go out to dinner tonight?" I said as calmly as I could. I had never in my life been so nervous! I was Devlin Tempest! I didn't get nervous! I ran my finger over the ring on my finger; It felt great to have it back. She smiled widely. "I thought you'd never ask." I grinned crookedly at her. "Great, tonight at seven. I'll pick you up." I put my hand on her cheek and pulled her face closer to mine so I could press my lips to hers. I noticed a few differences in her technique, more tongue movement than usual. I smiled agains her lips. "Getting a little exotic there," I chuckled, kising her again. She smiled and got right back into it. She put her hand on the back of my head and tangled her fingers in myhair as I placed my hands on her lower back. This was different... I pulled away just as she started to wrap her leg around me. Very different indeed. "You feeling alright?" I asked uncertainly. She was acting alittle... Odd.

i'm a lot to handleYOU DON'T KNOW TROUBLEi'm one hell of a scandalTHE BEST DAMN THING YOUR EYES HAVE EVER SEEN [NAANEE] He was a good kisser. I could see why Kestrel was so interested in him. "I'm just... Happy," I smiled, kissing him again, deeper this time, although I kept my legs to myself. He jumped away from me a little in surprise. "Woah, hands in new places," he held up his hands in surrender. I grinned and winked at him, running my tongue over my upper lip. I was kind of looking forward to having a date with this guy -- I bet he was a stallion in the bedroom. I kissed the corner of his lips, teasing him. "Why don't I meet you here for seven?" I asked, realising it was going to be too difficult for him to pick me up wherever Kestrel was staying -- she might ruin the whole ride for me. "See you then," I hopped off the wall and gave him a casual salut with two fingers as I headed back, thinking of what I was going to wear tonight... And how little I would wear under it.

Seven O'clock came in a flash. I checked myself out in my bedroom mirror. To be honest, the tie was a bit much with my white shirt and black suit trousers and jacket but I made it work. Not to burst my own bubble but I looked smokin'. I propped my bike up on its stand and leaned against the tree, waiting for her to arrive. I had no idea why she insisted we meet here instead of me picking her up at Theta Pi. I shrugged and yawned a little. It was still pretty light out.Ichecked my watch. God, where was she?? Fashionably late was not twenty minutes.

i'm a lot to handleYOU DON'T KNOW TROUBLEi'm one hell of a scandalTHE BEST DAMN THING YOUR EYES HAVE EVER SEEN [NAANEE] "You look like you miss me," I smiled as I leaned casually against the tree, slightly behind him so he hadn't noticed me until I'd spoke. I was wearing a dress I'd taken from Kestrels wardrobe at home -- white, coming just above the knees with a string holterneck. I wore my hair down and loose, and did my make up the same way Kestrel did hers. "So, Devlin," I put my hands on the tree on either side of him. "You know you've got me alone now, right?" I smiled as I leaned in, so that our lips were just milimetres away. I was such a tease -- I smiled. "And if you promise not to bite me..." I trailed off, grinning as I kissed his lower lip. Whether he was happy about it or not, I knew he was enjoying it.

She was being very seductive and, being a guy(vampire or not), I was enjoying it. "So, the reservations are in half an hour..." I trailed off, spinning us around so that her back was against the bark of the tree and my hands were either side of her. "What do you say we skip dinner, and get straight through to dessert?" I grinned against her lips. Somehow, we both ended up back in my room. I had no idea how we'd managed to get here so fast. "Kes, are you sure you--" "Shut up." She pressed herself to me on my bed. "Okay." Who knew she was so energetic. I was seing a side of her I never knew existed. I wasn't sure if I liked it; I was pretty sure she'd managed to bite me more than I had her. And I was the vampire.

i'm a lot to handleYOU DON'T KNOW TROUBLEi'm one hell of a scandalTHE BEST DAMN THING YOUR EYES HAVE EVER SEEN I wiped the dust off my jeans as I walked back into the Tempests house. "Taken care of," I murmured to Nathanial, passing him my stake. I hadn't seen Devlin all day. Maybe I'd see if he was in. I was halfway up the stairs as a moody Leon was coming down them. He looked up briefly to see who was passing. "Kestrel?" Leon frowned. I stopped to see what he wanted. He looked surprised. "How are you-- I mean, I just saw y-- Weren't you just with Devlin?" he asked, shocked. I frowned and shook my head. He blinked, then shrugged, then continued to trudge down the stairs. I wondered... I walked up the rest of the stairs and found Devlin's door at the end of the impossibly long passageway. I knocked on the door, but got no answer. When I opened it, I was only half surprised. "Interesting excercises, Dev," I commented, although my eyes focused on the woman in the bed. She was... She was me. She sat up and stared at me, her hair a mess and her eyes wide. "Kestrel I can explain--" My eyes immediately narrowed into slits. I knew that tone. "You're supposed to be dead," I was completely confused. A triumphant smile broke across my sisters face, "I recovered," She beamed proudly at me. My fingers touched the bacj of my neck, where resided the scars that had never really healed. "That makes one of us," I raised an eyebrow, annoyed. I leaned against the door frame. Hmmm. Looking at Naanee, I realised I had a pretty good body. "So what was your plan then, sis?" I asked bitterly. She brushed some of her chaotically messy hair out of her eyes. "Impressive, ain't it?" She smiled, "Two minutes younger and I still get the boy before you do." I laughed softly and looked to the ground, brushing some hair behind my ears. "Yeah, Naanee," I laughed lightly, "You really got me," I stepped back into the hall and closed the door after me. I didn't want to admit it, but seeing Devlin with another woman, even one that looked exactly like me, hurt.

What the hell had just happened? "If-if she was Kestrel," I pointed at the door, "Then who? Who the hell are you??" I pointed to the other one, my expression filled with confusion. She smiled and waved her hand a little. "Hi, I'm Naanee," She extended her hand out for me to shake. "Pleased to meet. You're really good in bed, you know that?" She jumped a little and batted her lashes at me. I glared at her from the corner of my eye. "Wait a sec, then you- and, and Kestrel...?" Oh shit. Kestrel. I jumped out of bed and pulled on a pair of jeans, running out after her. Naanee was humming as I left. I wondered seriously about mental health issues in that woman. "KESTREL!" I bellowed down the hallway. Why the hell did it have to be so long?? She didn't stop walking. Great, I was going to have to run... I'd already had my excersise for the day. I broke into a sprint and kind of skid past her a little, and slipping on the waxed floors. "OW! Kestrel! Listen to me!" I got up and stood in her way, moving from side to side as she did. "That other you told me she was you so I thought it was you because you looked exactly like, well, you and I asked you -- her,but it was meant to be you -- out to dinner but she wasn't hungry so we just got dessert instead and one thing lead to another and you!" I was rambling. Gah, shut up Devlin! "I didn't know you had a twin?"

i'm a lot to handleYOU DON'T KNOW TROUBLEi'm one hell of a scandalTHE BEST DAMN THING YOUR EYES HAVE EVER SEEN I put my finger over Devlins lips to stop him from saying another word. "I had a twin who I thought was dead," I told him. "And I don't care who you sleep with, Devlin. I was just shocked when I saw my sister who is supposed to be dead," I was really trying to stress that point. He went to speak again to I used my entire hand to cover his mouth. "Devlin, just shut up and listen," I ordered him. "I don't care what girls you show your bed to, okay? That honestly hadn't been what surprised me when I came in. It was seeing me -- her -- that surpri-- Hold on," I frowned, having just realised something. I let go of his mouth so that he could talk. "Did you say you were going to ask me to dinner?" I almost smiled. I was pretty amazed. I mean, this was Devlin. He didn't know how to ask a normal girl out. I closed my eyes and shook the thought out of my head. "Nevermind," I dismissed the idea. "And for the record," I stepped aside from him so I could keep walking, "I'm much better in bed than my little sister," I smiled cheekily. "Not that you'll ever know," I added.

"Not that I'll ever-- Kestrel, Look, I'm sorry alright?" I ran and stood infront of her again, blocking her way. "Do you wanna know the truth? I'm crazy about you and holy crap she looks exactly like you!" I stepped from side to side as she did. I could see it was getting on her nerves, and I felt myself grin a little. "And yeah, I was going to ask you to dinner..." I shrugged and pulled her closer to me so I could hug her. She didn't pull away, which I took as a good sign. "So, what do you say? Dinner with me tomorrow night?" I asked hopefully, smiling gently into her hair.

i'm a lot to handleYOU DON'T KNOW TROUBLEi'm one hell of a scandalTHE BEST DAMN THING YOUR EYES HAVE EVER SEEN "Hmmm," I sighed, pulling away from his hug. "If I say no, you might kidnap me," I joked. "So sure, Wonder Boy. Pick me up at Theta," I kissed his cheek as I side stepped him again, hurrying to the end of the hall so that he couldn't stop me again. I smiled to myself a little... He was crazy about me? I ran my hands through my hair as I headed back to Theta Pi. Tom was already in bed and Jinny and Sol were playing strip poker. "You shouldn't be here," I raised my eyebrows at Sol, who dealt me a hand. After about an hour I went down to the kitchen to get a drink. Someone wrapped their arm around my neck and pressed a cold silver knife to my throat. "You ruined it," Naanee's voice sounded disappointed. I sighed and spun around pinning down her arms. "You are not going to destroy my life here," I growled at her. "Why can't you let me just be happy for once?" "There can't be another me, I am me," She snarled, putting the knife down and heading back out the room. Needless to say I slept with my door locked that night. The next night I opened my bedroom door to Devlin, who was wearing the tie I'd given him and had a rose in his hand. "Wonder Boy," I smiled.

"Kessie," I grinned, handing her the single rose I had picked for her. She looked amazing; she was wearing a nice little black number that showed off her figure, but at the same time didn't reveal too much flesh. I felt much more comfortable tonight then I had yesterday, the fact that I was wearing a tie just proved that fact. I felt so... posh. I didn't like it, but I wasn't thinking about it enough to care. Much. "You look amazing; beautiful." I told her honsetly, "Ready to go?" I held out my arm for her to take, grinning crookedly at her.

I slipped my hand into his as he led me out. The rose was a deep red and hadn't even begun to wilt. I wondered how he'd gotten one so perfect... "So where are we heading?" I asked casually, knowing the first dates were all so sappy. Dinner passed really nicely actually. Even though he didn't eat anything, he was making conversation really easy. After dinner, we were walking along one of the bays in New York, the sun just starting to set, lighting up the sky with lovely colours of orange and purple. His arm was over my shoulder. Something caught my eyes, snarling in a corner. It was devouring what was left of a man in an alleyway. I sighed heavily. I couldn't just get one date with Devlin without some form of interruption from a demon. "Kessie!" An exhausted Sol and Jinny running up to us, holding an axe and a crossbow. Giles was trudging behind them. "Kestrel," Giles sighed, "We think Warren may have found something he doesn't know how to control." "So?" I raised my eyebrows, tightening my grip on Devlin's hand. "You guys can handle one slaying without me." Ugh. Why couldn't my life just be normal? "Kestrel," Sol protested, turning the axe in his hands. "There's a hell hound running loose in the city, and you're going to ignore that for a date?!" I closed my eyes as he said that. I just wanted one normal night with Devlin. I grudingly took the heavy crossbow off of Jinny. Giles fixed his glasses as he looked to Devlin. "Devlin, Gile's is my Watcher," I explained to him, as he was looking incredibly confused by our fraternising. "Excuse me for a minute," I resentfully went with Sol to the alleyway where the giant creature was devouring the corpse.

I narrowed my eyes at Giles a little. How can a man who wears his pyjamas under his lecture clothes be a watcher? I looked over to the hell hound who was ripping away big bites of flesh from it's victims bones. Wait a second, they were going to kill it?? What did it ever do to them? I know what you're thinking, a vampire with morals right? I knew all about hell hounds; they were known widely as ressurection hounds and were often mistaken for werewolves because of their size. They preyed at night on helpless victims, usually appearing just after the eclipse. To be honest, they were just very misunderstood creatures. I jogged up beside Sol and turned to Kestrel. "kestrel, dont kill it. It's not hurting anyone." I pulled a face, "well except maybe that guy but for all we know, he could have already been dead." I shrugged, nodding at the disfigured corpse below the he'll hound.
