"Please, call me Devlin," I told her, feelng a little hurt hat she didn't remember my name. I had to have made a better impession on her than that. "Are you going to tell me you're name? or must I try guessing?"

"Give me a good reason to," I stood up and slung my bag over my back again. "I mean, why should I?" I smiled mischieviously, "Convince me," I taunted him.

Convince her how? I wondered. Well, there was no way in hell she was going to resist THE smile. I grinned to myself and asked her: "Pleeeease?" Then I smiled my smile. THE smile.

He smiled. I barely noticed. I was thinking about the lecture we'd just had. He was so full of himself. "Still not convinced," I said, rather coldly. I saw a man disappearing behind a dorm, pulling a young woman with him. She was bleeding at the neck. "Can you excuse me, for a minute?" I asked, afraid he might follow me if I went to investigate.

My jaw dropped. She--she didn't even, smile back?! What the frick was wrong with her?! "Fine," I turned and stormed away. "Bitch." I growled. I couldn't believe her selfishness. I looked back but couldn't see her n the hall anymore. "Good ridance!" I said a little too loud and some exchange students turned to look a me curiously. "What?" I snarled at them before turning sharply and stomping out of the hall.

The vampire turned to dust beneath my hands as I drove the stake into his chest. Luckily, the woman he'd been preying on had been unconscious and hadn't seen anything. She'd probably wake up thinking she was drunk. I packed my stake into my belt and walked away. I didn't even go back to check if that Devlin guy was still where I'd left him. I wasn't that bothered. I decided to maybe go to a bar or something. I got to the first one I found and got a beer.

I couldn't believe it. She was sitting on a bar stool, downing a beer no less than six meters away from me. I resentfully took my beer and bpulled up a seat beside her. Why was I so interested in this woman? Her blood didn't even appeal to me. Maybe it had something to do with the ice that ran through her veins. "Mind if I sit here?" I didn't really care if she did, I was going to sit here anyway.

What were the odds? Ugh, why couldn't he just stay away? "Devlin Tempest," I had to repress shudders when I was saying his name. "I got it right that time," I smiled to myself, taking another swig of beer. I looked over to him. He seemed so arrogant. "This isn't the type of bar that guys with money usually choose," I commented, looking him up and down.

I was pleased that she remembered my name at least. "Did it ever occur to you that maybe I dont care much for money?" I didn't mean to sound as awful as It did.

I raised my eyebrows and put down the bottle. "I think I'll be going now," I stood up. There were other bars to hit. What a prick he was turning out to be. poiled rich brat, probably thinking he could charm me with a smile. Please.

I growled at her. Literally. 'Fine, be that way.' I shot abuse mentally at her. I just couldn't see how that woman wasn't catchin onto me by now. I all of a sudden felt the need to confront her again; ask er what the hel her problem was. Why did this bitch have such a tremendous effect on me? I got up and jogged after her, feeling a slight deja vu. "Hey!" I called after her, "What the hell is your problem?!"

"My problem?" I asked, almost laughing. "I just don't much like rich boys who think they can win me over so easily," I shrugged, turningand continuing to walk away from him. After a few minutes I could feel someone following me. "Tempest--" I started, turning to face him, but seeing a different man. Older. Early thirties maybe. His eyes were red and he had fangs at the ready. He had blond hair and a handsome look about him. "Oh God don't you have anything better to do?" I asked the vampire, pulling my stake out of my belt. "I'm retired!"

This was going to be more difficult than I thought. She walked away from me and I had half a mind to follow her, but I decded to just let the dust settle a bit; at least until tomorrow. I left the crowded bar, annoyed and confused. Stupid Kestrel. Literally two minutes later and I got the shock of my life. That Kestrel girl was being followed by a vampire. I was about to do something, until she turned and said: "Oh God don't you have anything better to do?" She sounded agitated as she took from her belt, a wooden stake. "I'm retired!" She was a Slayer, huh? No wonder this girl had caught my attention. I immediatly thought of Donna and my expression turned cold.

TALL BLOND LETS OUT A CRY OF DESPAIR "i would have cut it myself if i knew men could climb hair""i'll have to find another tower somewhere""AND KEEP AWAY FROM THE WINDOW" [/b][/center] As I pulled my stake out of the vampires chest he turned to dust. Maybe Ember's wasn't the place for me, I mean, this whole retirement thing wasn't going well. For the next two weeks I didn't go to any of the Night Class lectures, but I would sit in on the day class lectures, despite being registered as a Night Student. Things were going pretty well for me. I'd met a nice, normal boy named Austin and had plenty of friends in Theta. I hoped things would stay that way. I hadn't seen or been in contact with a single Night Class student in the past two weeks, so maybe moving to the Day Class would work out... I was walking home from a bar alone. I'd just left Jinny and Sol at PV's. I'd felt like I should call it a night. I decided to take a short cut through an alleyway. Five men were laughing drunkly at the end of the alley. Maybe I should have turned back... "Hey!" one of them called out to me. I pretended I hadn't heard him as I turned to walk out of the alley. They ran to catch up with me -- one of them put his hand on my shoulder. "Don't touch me," I warned him, when they tried to pull me back. "What are you gonna' do?" he asked stupidly. "There's five of us and one of you," he smiled. "Then go get four more guys, and it'll be an even fight," I hissed. One of them grabbed me from behind and pinned my arms down. Another tried to grab me and ripped my shirt. "Get off me!" I screamed at them, trying to kick them away.

The past two weeks had been a total bore. Kestrel the Slayer, yes, I'd seen her drive that stake into his chest, had been absent from class and I pretty much only went in the hope i'd get to see her. Being a vampire myself, having a slayer around was not the safest; but what was really bugging me was Donna. She'd died on campus here, at the hands of a slayer. What where the chances, that Kestrel Savage, was Donna's killer? I was thinking of this the whole way home from and, speak of the devil, there she was; being attacked by a group of drunken a-holes. She was putting up a good fight, but still was losing. I jumped in, smiling confidently as I tapped the bald one on the shoulder. "I don't think she likes being touched," I grinned as I p unched him, full force, in the jaw. He fell backwards and didn't get up again. Two more advanced on me and, again, I smiled. "Bring it on, boys!" This, I thought to myself, was going to be fun.
