i want you to knowYOU COULDN’T HAVE LOVED ME BETTERbut i want you to move onSO IM ALREADY GONE "Devlin!" I yelled when the chains released me, but as soon as I had Leon had already got Devlin on the ground. "No--" I started, but Leon grabbed me and cut me off, holding one hand to my back and his other hand wrapped around one of mine, as he held me close to him. "And hey, two thumbs way way up for our leading lady," he grinned at me, as I tried to pull away from him. "By the way Devlin, is she not just an amazing little actress?" Leon twirled me around as I pushed him off of me. "Stop it," I whispered, breaking loose of his grip. Devlin was barely able to get off the ground. "Devlin, I didn't -- I couldn't --" I broke off weakly, looking to the defeated looking man on the ground. "I'm sorry," I whispered. "Which reminds me," Leon grinned, "Didn't we have a deal?" He asked me, looking excited. I couldn't breathe. I dropped onto my knees next to Devlin. His face was bleeding, I tried to help him up but he shook me off. Leon coughed, reminding me of our deal. He put his hand over his chest. "I swear I won't kill your wonder boy," he grinned. He grabbed my hand and I felt my strength being drained from me. I fell back in exhaustion. "Not so tough without your slayer abilities are you?" He smiled down at me. "Now you know what it is to be just like everyone else. Isn't it just peachy?" He winked, turning. "Well, you'll have to excuse me, theres a whole Hellmouth out there waiting for me to open it."

He was going to open the Hellmouth...What a TWAT. I knew what that meant; death and destruction. Lots of it. My powerhungry dumbass brother was going to get us all killed! Himself included, but more importantly, me. Like hell I was going to let that happen. My body ached as I tried to stand, managing to get to my knees so I could look down at Kestrel. "You were acting... What kind of idiot does that make me to have believed you?" I asked flatly, the disappointment heavy in my tone to, hopefully, hide the pain from showing. I should have expected this, I had suspected something but... Not this. I stood up and felt a shooting pain run through my side. Had he broken a rib or two?? God, Leon had done some serious damage; that ring had made him freaky strong, even for a vampire. Oh shit, I hoped I knew what I was doing... "Over my dead body is that green eyed bastard going to open the Hellmouth." I growled. "And dont you dare follow me." I ordered her as I began to walk away, clutching my aching side.

He was pissed. Okay, he had every right to be, but still, his tone stung me. He was disappointed with me. What was I supposed to have done?! It wasn't like I'd had a choice! In case he was forgetting, my soul had belonged to Leon!! I gasped in pain as I felt myself becoming more drained -- even without Leon clutching my skin, I could still feel the life being sucked out of me. I was slowly dying. "Devlin," I pulled myself to my feet and ran after him, standing in front of him and planting my hands on his chest to stop him walkin any further. I felt so weak being human... "Please, you can't go after him!" I felt myself being pushed out of the way. I used all my strength to grab his shoulder and pull myself in front of him again. "If you leave now you'll die!" I could feel tears streaking down my face as I tried to restrain him. It was pointless; I was just a human and he was a vampire. I wasn't a slayer anymore, and whats worse, I was dying. "Please, I'll do anything, please don't go after him," I begged weakly. "You'll be killed!" It was no use, he just wasn't listening. "Please," I pleaded hoarsely, trying to push him back, "I'll do anything, please!"

"Kesterl, there's nothing you can do," I told her, swerving past every attempt she made to restrain me. Did she even know what the Hellmouth was?? It was the opening to Hell, basically. As the name would constrew. I had no idea what would happen if Leon opened it, but it couldn't be good. I wasn't going to stand around and wait to find out. Kestrel had tears streaming down her face; I stopped for a moment to wipe a tear from her cheek consolingly. I smiled a little; maybe she did care... Her soul had belonged to Leon, after all. Maybe I was over reacting a little, but I still didn't know which part to believe. "I have to stop him, Kestrel. If I don't, who will? Please don't do this to yourself." I smiled crookedly at her. "And hey, I'm Devlin Tempest! I never die." I stroked some hair behind her ear and turned to keep walking. "I'll be back." I quoted the Terminator playfully, trying to reassure her as I tried to ignore the pain in my side.

He wiped away one of my tears and I held his hand to my face. I could feel the overwhelming tiredness coming over me, and I tried not to show it. He turned again with a line from the terminator and tried to walk off again. "But you're hurt!" I protested, grabbing his sleeve and trying to pull him back. "Please," I whispered, holding his shirt as I tried to stop him from going any further. "I'll deal with Leon," I whispered, holding him tighter when he tried to keep walking. "Devlin -- no stop it!" I cried when he pushed past me. My strength was nothing compared to his anymore. "Please," I took his face in my hands, "Please, please, please Devlin," I whispered pleadingly. "Ah," I gasped sharply, grabbing my chest. Devlin was momentarily distracted by my intake of painful breath, and I took that opertunity to push him back onto the ground, next to the garage. I used the bike chain to lock his wrist onto the garage door. "I'm sorry," I apologised, "But Leon will kill you," I rubbed away a tear as I stood up. "I'll stop him," I told him as I turned, realisin my life would be over soon enough anyways. "I'm already dead."

"Kestrel!" I shouted at her. What did she mean she was already dead?? Dead, absolutaly not! She was not dying anytime soon, not while I could still stop it. "KESTREL DONT YOU DARE!" I bellowed, struggling against my restraints. I could feel the chains straining, either that or my wrist was about ready to snap. "Kestrel get back here!! Don't do this, PLEASE Kestrel!" It was too late, she'd already gone out of my line of sight. I pressed both of my feet against the garage door and used the strength in my legs to pull off the handle. It was more difficult than I'd hoped it would be. After three tries, I gave up and began to pelt the handle with a rather large rock; the closest one I could find. This was taking too long, Kestrel was going to get herself killed!! I began to slam the rock into the handle harder, until it finally snapped. It was literally hanging by a thread of metal. I pressed my feet against the door agian and pulled as hard as I could... The handle snapped off completely. I legged it after her, only half focusing on getting the chain off of my wrist. Shit, she'd better be alright... I would slaughter Leon if he hurt her... Oh God Kestrel, be okay; please, please be alright. I'm coming -- just hold on.

so i'm forging aheadGO SOB IN YOUR BEDif life is twice as prettyONCE YOU'RE DEAD "You should be dead by now," Leon growled in annoyance as he held me off the ground by my throat. I choked out a laugh at him -- he should know me better than that. "You know me," I grinned, although I was losing air fast, "I'm a survivor." I planted one foot on his chest and used all my remaining strength to push him away. He stumbled back and released me; I dropped to my knees and coughed heavily, my throat raw after being throttled. "I can see it in your eyes," he composed himself and smiled at me, putting his hand on my chin and lifting me up by that. "You're dying," he smiled triumphantly. Unfortunately, he was right. I could feel circles under my eyes; I could feel myself getting paler. I was weak and tired and sick -- and I was going to end Leon. I managed to get to my feet when Leon slapped me full force and I fell back again. Leon was laughing as he pulled me to my feet once more, enjoying the routine. And then... It all happened so fast. I didn't see it coming. I felt the sharp pain, but I didn't want to believe it. Leon sank his fangs deep into my neck and I felt myself collapse -- he bit hard.

Finding the passage that lead to the Hellmouth opening had been a mission and a half. It was benieth a small Christian church on 39th, dead in the center of New York. The passage was hidden from veiw and was near impossible to find if you weren't specifically looking for it. My movements and thoughts were frantic; every moment I spent away from Kes, might be the last moment she had. God knows what my psychotic brother was doing. I was running through a stone passageway that was lit with hanging candles on the walls. I had one in my hand to light my way just as I heard Leons manic laughter echo from the my right. I turned the corner and sped down the passageway, stopping abrubtly when I entered into a gothicly designed circular room. Leon was standing with his arms around a slightly struggling Kestrel. I wasn't sure what he was doing, but I knew I didn't like it. "LEON!" I bellowed furiously, my eyes bulging when I realised what he was doing. He had his teeth digging deep into Kestrels neck, while her eyes were alive with pain and fear. I mouthed the word 'no' before I bellowed his name again. He was biting her?! Oh no he didn't! My legs kicked into action and I slammed my fist into his side, causing him to drop Kestrel and stumble away. You're kidding me? He looked like I hadn't hurt him at all! "Devlin," Leon growled as I crouched over Kestrel; Panic was a new emotion for me, and I wasn't enjoying it. Her neck was bleeding deep and she was clammy; her face was sallow and pale. She looked like death warmed up. "Oh shit Kestrel, stay with me please! You're going to be oka--" Slam. Leons fist collided with my head and I flew backwards. I mean literally flew backwards so that I was momintarily suspended in the air. Holy shit that had hurt! I coughed as Leon kicked my stomach in; I fell onto my back in pain. My goddamn ribs had seen better days. He was shouting something at me, but that last punch must have messed me up bad. I couldn't hear a thing as his foot slammed down onto my nose. His fist was coming down over me, aimed right between the eyes but I dodged it and his fist hit the floor. He writhed in pain as I got to my feet and smacked him one in the jaw. "HA!" I spat out a little blood. Blood was running down from my nose and I'd never had a more excruciating pain than the one I had in my chest. Kestrel was still on the floor, motionless. My breathing was fast with the worry I felt, but right now I was trying to focus on stopping Leon, who was now advancing on me with his fist clenched and his jaw tightly set. I had a feeling this wasn't going to end well...

I felt my head rush and all the blood in my body race back to my chest in one final bid to make it to my heart before it was too late. The pressure in my chest was huge -- it felt like I was drowning. My vision was blurred and I felt like I was blacking out for seconds at a time. I couldn't hear anything -- it all felt like I was under water. I strained my neck as my back arched up in absolute pain -- as if someone had a string attached to my chest and was pulling me upwards by it, and I screamed through clenched teeth. I'd never felt such choking and dizzy and desperation in fear before -- I knew I was about to die and I couldn't do anything about it. I felt my heart stop. In that fraction of a second after my heart had stopped and before I closed my eyes, everything seemed to be happening at once. Devlin was crouching over me. '...Stay with me, please!" I wanted to. Oh God, he had no idea how much I wanted to. My vision went blindingly white as I felt Devlins presence leave me, as I felt my presence leave me. I tried to take another breath but my body wouldn't allow it. Great. I was dead for the second time. I felt a single breath rush through my windpipe suddenly, my heart lurching forward in one sharp and sudden beat. Then another short, sounding and singular beat hit me. I didn't understand... My eyes could make out colors again -- shadowy shapes. I saw Leon land a fist in Devlins jaw, who was bleeding heavily from the nose. The second Leon's knuckles met with Devlin's fist another strong lurching beat pulsed from my heart. Leon's deal was broken... He'd promised Devlin wouldn't get hurt. I managed to pull myself onto my side and prop myself up by my arms. My muscles were adjusting to the strain the lack of oxygen had caused them. I saw a drop of blood fall onto my hands, and realised my neck was bleeding. I was bleeding -- good, that meant my heart was definitely beating. My hands picked up the stake I'd dropped during my battle with Leon as I felt my strength returning to me. Enough so that I could stand, and then walk. Leon had Devlin on the ground again, landing kicks into his gut. I wiped the blood from my neck and coughed lightly. Leon froze, and then turned slowly to stare at me in disbelief. "I'm feeling better," I smiled, sending his staggering backwards as I hoisted myself up using two person-height metal candle holders and kicking Leon in the teeth. "It's not possible," he shook his head as blood fell from his mouth. "Not probable," i corrected him, taking a few steps forward as he backed away. So, he was afraid of me? Apparently not, as he grabbed my wrists and forced me back against one of the walls, not daring to touch my stake. "The Assention will happen," he snarled, pressing his chest against mine. I brought my face closer to his, so that we were only milimetres away, and I was staring into his bright red eyes. "Wanna' bet?" I thrust my knee sharply upwards, between both of his legs. He doubled over and fell back in pain. Ha. All men, ring wearing vampires or not, had the same weak spot.

Dispite the pain it caused me, I smiled at Kestrels attack on Leon, who was now rolling on the floor in pain with his hands between his legs. I was a little confused as to how she'd recovered so suddenly; she looked better anyway, minus the blood running down her neck. I steadlily got to my feet and trudged over to them, trying to contol the aches and pain all over my body. I wiped the blood from my face with my sleeve. Kestrel was still attacking Leon, but I tapped her shoulder from behind. I grinned when she turned to me. "My turn." I grabbed Leon by the collar and with all my strength, hoisted him up in the air and slammed his back against the wall. "I believe this is mine," With my right arm pressed against his windpipe to keep him against the wall, I used my left hand to remove the ring --my ring -- from his finger. I instantly felt him weaken and I let him drop to the ground, placing the ring on my own finger. I felt instantly better, but it still hurt. Leon was still writhing pathetically on the ground from Kestrels little below-the-belt incident ealier. God, how hard had she hit him? I kind of felt a little bad for him now; that was very, very painful. I did not envy him one bit. "You really got him good huh?" I chuckled lightly, flinching at the pain when I did. I stepped over Leon and put my hand on Kestrels cheek. "You okay? Any lightheaddedness?" I asked, eyeing the blood she'd lost worriedly.

"You saved my life," I wrapped my arms around him and held him tightly, releasing him when he flinched. "By getting the crap kicked out of yourself, I got my strength back," I grinned, turning back to the pathetic Leon on the ground. "That's the second time you've killed me," my smile was replaced with a furious glare. "What can I say?" Leon laughed through blood and a crushed windpipe, "Success just follows me." My foot slammed into his gut. "Give me one reason why I shouldn't stake you right now," I ordered him, pulling out my stake. "Just one reason." Leon laughed. "Without me, Dev there wouldn't have been so jealous," he coughed through a bloodied smile, "And he wouldn't have said he loved you." I raised my eyebrows. Leon had a point. "Pussy," Leon added quietly under his breath to Devlin. I put my stake back in my belt. "Stay away from me," I warned the beaten man on the ground as I turned away from him, back to the cold silver eyes staring back at me. "About earlier, when he said I was acting..." i trailed off, biting my lip and taking his hand. "I wasn't -- I couldn't... I really do like you, Devlin," I whispered. "No strings attached." I hugged him, careful so I didn't hurt him again. I took out the soft, smooth strip of material from my pocket and wrapped it around the back of his neck, using it to pull his face closer to mine. I kissed him softly but deeply, before letting go of the material so it stayed around his neck and pulling away. I smiled against his lips as I fixed the black tie I'd just placed around his neck, saying, "You needed one," and walked away, heading back to Theta Pi.
