Heart beats fast Colors and promises How to be brave How can I love when I'm afraid to fall Watching you stand alone All of my doubt suddenly goes away somehow
One step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you Darling don't be afraid I have loved you For a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more
Time stands still Beauty in all she is I will be brave I will not let anything take away What's standing in front of me Every breath Every hour has come to this
One step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you Darling don't be afraid I have loved you For a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more
And all along I believed I would find you Time has brought your heart to me I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more
One step closer One step closer
I have died everyday waiting for you Darling don't be afraid I have loved you For a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more
And all along I believed I would find you Time has brought your heart to me I have loved you for a thousand years I'll love you for a thousand more

This song is for Devlin, how he feels about the war. This song describes it perfectly, on top of being an amazing song.
CHER - YOU HAVEN'T SEEN THE LAST OF ME
Feeling broken Barely holding on But there's just something so strong Somewhere inside me And I am down but I'll get up again Don't count me out just yet
I've been brought down to my knees And I've been pushed way past the point of breaking But I can take it I'll be back Back on my feet This is far from over You haven't seen the last of me You haven't seen the last of me
They can say that I won't stay around But I'm gonna stand my ground You're not gonna stop me You don't know me You don't know who I am Don't count me out so fast I've been brought down to my knees And I've been pushed way past the point of breaking But I can take it I'll be back Back on my feet This is far from over You haven't seen the last of me
There will be no fade out This is not the end I'm down now But I'll be standing tall again Times are hard but I was built tough I'm gonna show you all what I'm made of
I've been brought down to my knees And I've been pushed right past the point of breaking But I can take it I'll be back Back on my feet This is far from over I am far from over You haven't seen the last of me
No no I'm not going nowhere I'm staying right here Oh no You won't see me fade out I'm not taking my bow Can't stop me It's not the end You haven't seen the last of me Oh no You haven't seen the last of me You haven't seen the last of me

This reminds me of them at the beginning of the first thread. Something That I Want -- Grace Potter
She's a girl with the best intentions He's a man of his own invention She looked out of the window He walked out the door But she followed him And he said, "What'cha lookin' for?"
She said, "I want something that I want Something that I tell myself I need Something that I want And I need everything I see."
Something that I want Something that I tell myself I need Something that I want And I need everything I see
He's been livin' in a pure illusion She's gonna come to her own conclusion Right when you think you know what to say Someone comes along and shows you a brand new way
She said, "I want something that I want Something that I tell myself I need Something that I want And I need everything I see."
Something that I want Something that I tell myself I need Something that I want And I need everything - 'cause
It's so easy to make believe, it seems you're livin' in a dream Don't you see that what you need is standing in front of you?
I want something that I want Something that I tell myself I need Something that I want And I need everything I see
Something that I want Something that I tell myself I need Something that I want And I need everything I see

"Don't Let Them See You Cry"
Don't let them see you cry When the dam breaks down and the city is covered in water Cause I believe we fly When the moon takes shape and I dose off, on your shoulders
I trust that you see it too
So breathe while you're alive Let the big band play as you tap leather with your fingers And I tried to write in style But the words just come and I write them as soon as I see them
And I trust that you write them too And I trust that you love me too

Let me know that I've done wrong When I've known this all along I go around a time or two Just to waste my time with you
Tell me all that you've thrown away Find out games you don't wanna play You are the only one that needs to know
I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret, hope that you can keep it) My dirty little secret
Who has to know When we live such fragile lives It's the best way we survive I go around a time or two Just to waste my time with you
Tell me all that you've thrown away Find out games you don't wanna play You are the only one that needs to know
I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret, hope that you can keep it) My dirty little secret
Who has to know The way she feels inside (inside) Those thoughts I can't deny (deny) These sleeping thoughts won't lie (won't lie) And all I've tried to hide It's eating me apart Trace this life out
I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret)
I'll keep you my dirty little secret (Dirty little secret) Don't tell anyone or you'll be just another regret (Just another regret, hope that you can keep it) My dirty little secret Dirty little secret Dirty little secret
Who has to know Who has to know

This is a song for Devlin as a child, how he feels about his Father. I imagine, its still how he feels, to an extent...
Father, hear me when I call on your name, I need you to answer me now, Father, here I am weak in your sight, Can you rescue me now, Father, I'm crying out, Cant figure it out on my own.

THIS IS A SONG FROM GILES POV just putting it out there. This is how I wanted my Kessie to be.
She climbs a tree and scrapes her knee Her dress has got a tear She waltzes on her way to Mass And whistles on the stair And underneath her wimple She has curlers in her hair I even heard her singing in the abbey
She's always late for chapel But her penitence is real She's always late for everything Except for every meal I hate to have to say it But I very firmly feel Kestrel's not an asset to the council
I'd like to say a word in her behalf Kestrel makes me laugh
How do you solve a problem like Kestrel? How do you catch a cloud and pin it down? How do you find a word that means Kestrel? A flibbertijibbet! A will-o'-the wisp! A clown!
Many a thing you know you'd like to tell her Many a thing she ought to understand But how do you make her stay And listen to all you say How do you keep a wave upon the sand
Oh, how do you solve a problem like Kestrel? How do you hold a moonbeam in your hand?
When I'm with her I'm confused Out of focus and bemused And I never know exactly where I am Unpredictable as weather She's as flighty as a feather She's a darling! She's a demon! She's a lamb!
She'd outpester any pest Drive a hornet from its nest She could throw a whirling dervish out of whirl She is gentle! She is wild! She's a riddle! She's a child! She's a headache! She's an angel! She's a girl!

This song makes me think of husband!dev or fiance!dev
10/10
All the people wanna try you girl, And I hope you tell them where to go, Cus I've got so much here to offer girl, Oh I love you more than you can know
Some people wanna speed it up, Infact I want to slow it down. I wanna get myself dressed up yeah, And take you out on the town
I'll be a model pupil tonight, babe. I wanna get ten out of ten. I'll be a model pupil tonight, babe. I wanna get ten out of ten.
Everybody's got opinions girl, There own versions of a good idea. But the best one I can think of now, Is to make sure that I keep you near.
And I know that I've got to keep it up, Cus I can see you're feeling down And I wanna get myself dressed up yeah, And take you out on the town
I'll be a model pupil tonight, babe. I wanna get ten out of ten. I'll be a model pupil tonight, babe. I wanna get ten out of ten.
And get an A in the taxi, A In the restaurant. Get ten out of ten. Get an A in the kitchen And an A in the bedroom I get ten out of ten
You make it out of nothing, And turn it into something, And give it to you all for free I'll be a model pupil tonight, babe. I wanna get ten out of ten.

This is how I imagine Dev WOULD have been had he been at Kestrel and John's wedding.
P!ATD
Oh, Well imagine, As I'm pacing the pews in a church corridor, And I can't help but to hear, No, I can't help but to hear an exchanging of words: "What a beautiful wedding! What a beautiful wedding!" says a bridesmaid to a waiter. "And yes, but what a shame, what a shame the poor groom's bride is a whore."
I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!" No, it's much better to face these kinds of things With a sense of poise and rationality. I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!" No, it's much better to face these kinds of things With a sense of...
Well in fact, Well I'll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved Well this calls for a toast So pour the champagne Oh! Well in fact, Well I'll look at it this way, I mean technically our marriage is saved Well this calls for a toast, So pour the champagne, pour the champagne
I'd chime in with a "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!" No, it's much better to face these kinds of things With a sense of poise and rationality. I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!" No, it's much better to face these kinds of things With a sense of poise and rationality. Again...
I'd chime in, "Haven't you people ever heard of closing a goddamn door?!" No, it's much better to face these kinds of things With a sense of poise and rationality. This song is just, its so Giles and Kessie. This is how Giles felt as Kes grew up, with him practically trying to raise her, make her a slayer, all the while knowing it was going to kill her one day. He never thought it would be so hard to raise a child just to prepare for their own murder. When he used to give her orders, be hard on her for trivial things like not wearing the right shoes or holding her hands too close together on the neck of an axe -- silly things -- and she used to think he was the bad guy, just another teacher that had it out for her. This is what Giles was really thinking.
It's not time to make a change Just relax, take it easy You're still young, that's your fault There's so much you have to know Find a boy, settle down If you want, you can marry Look at me, I am old But I'm happy
I was once like you are now And I know that it's not easy To be calm when you've found Something going on But take your time, think a lot Well think of everything you've got For you will still be here tomorrow But your dreams may not
How can I try to explain When I do she turns away again It's always been the same Same old story; From the moment she could talk She was ordered to listen Now there's a way and I know That I have to go away I know I have to go
It's not time to make a change Just sit down and take it slowly You're still young that's your fault There's so much you have to go through Find a boy, settle down If you want, you can marry Look at me, I am old But I'm happy
All the times that I've cried Keeping all the things I knew inside It's hard, but it's harder To ignore it If they were right I'd agree But it's them they know, not me Now there's a way and I know That i have to go away I know I have to go

She smiled in a big way, the way a girl like that smiles When the world is hers and she held your eyes Out in the breezeway down by the shore in the lazy summer And she pulled you in, and she bit your lip, and she made you hers She looked deep into you as you lay together quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer But you've already lost When you only had barely enough to hang on And she combed your hair, and she kissed your teeth And she made you better than you'd been before She told you bad things you wished you could change in the lazy summer And she told you, laughing down to her core, so she would not cry as she lay in your lap She said "nobody here can live forever, quiet in the grasp of dusk and summer" But you've already lost When you only had barely enough to hang on She said, "no one is alone the way you are alone" And you held her looser than you would have if you ever could have known Some things tie your life together, slender threads and things to treasure Days like that should last and last and last But you've already lost When you only had barely enough of her to hang on

The first three stanza's of this (beautiful) song refer to John's parents and the way they raised him. The next three stanza's are about his marriage to Kestrel and Nate, and the last three stanza's are about Kes and Dev during Egypt and the French house.
Near or Far
Man of a moneyed mind, Trophy wife on his arm to boast Their love was dashed on a diamond coast.
And born was a single heir To the ideal pair, to the careless two Who choked the child on a silver spoon.
Now the couples take turns trying to outdo each other The more riches the better the father, or the mother.
And love at young nineteen, King and Queen; the wedding bells May well have warned what time will tell.
And the cut above her eye She could not hide it from the little boy Who knew it wise to not make noise.
Now he's gone more often, And she's found ways to forget. And the little boys hatred Is not showing yet.
Wife of a working man, Pills in hand beneath a teary sleeve Her love was pure But he wouldn't believe
And years and years go by The things they tried -- but fate had wrote to not share their lives would kill them both.
Now he goes to houses Where kissing is banned And she has a daughter But she's missing her man.
Near or far from your mind, All this happens all the time.

This song every time I hear t it reminds me of Devlins life before he met Kes.
"Khe Sanh"
I left my heart to the sappers round Khe Sanh And my soul was sold with my cigarettes to the blackmarket man I've had the Vietnam cold turkey From the ocean to the Silver City And it's only other vets could understand
About the long forgotten dockside guarantees How there were no V-dayheroes in 1973 How we sailed into Sydney Harbour Saw an old friend but couldn't kiss her She was lined, and I was home to the lucky land
And she was like so many more from that time on Their lives were all so empty, till they found their chosen one And their legs were often open But their minds were always closed And their hearts were held in fast suburban chains And the legal pads were yellow, hours long, paypacket lean And the telex writers clattered where the gunships once had been But the car parks made me jumpy And I never stopped the dreams Or the growing need for speed and novacaine
So I worked across the country end to end Tried to find a place to settle down, where my mixed up life could mend Held a job on an oil-rig Flying choppers when I could But the nightlife nearly drove me round the bend
And I've travelled round the world from year to year And each one found me aimless, one more year the worse for wear And I've been back to South East Asia But the answer sure ain't there But I'm drifting north, to check things out again
You know the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone Only seven flying hours, and I'll be landing in Hong Kong There ain't nothing like the kisses From a jaded Chinese princess I'm gonna hit some Hong Kong mattress all night long
Well the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone Yeah the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone And it's really got me worried I'm goin' nowhere and I'm in a hurry And the last plane out of Sydney's almost gone

I listened to this fantastic song again and realized how much of Devlin is in it. The whole thing is him to a tee, its awesome, because its my favorite song. Like, the first verse is more to his parents, as is the second. The chorus is how he feels about himself, about how the world is around him. Its exactly right. The first time the chorus is sung its like he wishes for it. He's telling himself. And then the next verse is about Kestrel, when he first meets her and how he grows to feel. Then when the next time the chorus is sung its like he's telling Kestrel something he's never told anyone before. Something he's held on to. Then the bridge is like a collage of all he becomes in his life, later on like. Through the war, and Milosh, saving Epinphren, all that. How he becomes so much more than anyone expected of him. How he's 'not what they see'. Its perfect Hannah!! And then the end repetition of the chorus is the victory! ITS THE VICTORY HANNAH!!
I shant even apologise. Too busy being AWESOME and FANGIRLING over my wonderful wondefrul Devlin!!!
"I'm Still Here"
I am a question to the world, Not an answer to be heard. All a moment that's held in your arms. And what do you think you'd ever say? I won't listen anyway… You don't know me, And I’ll never be what you want me to be.
And what do you think you'd understand? I'm a boy, no, I'm a man.. You can take me and throw me away. And how can you learn what's never shown? Yeah, you stand here on your own. They don't know me 'cause I'm not here.
And I want a moment to be real, Wanna touch things I don't feel, Wanna hold on and feel I belong. And how can the world want me to change, They’re the ones that stay the same. The don’t know me, 'Cause I’m not here.
And you see the things they never see All you wanted, I could be Now you know me, and I'm not afraid And I wanna tell you who I am Can you help me be a man? They can't break me As long as I know who I am
And I want a moment to be real, Wanna touch things I don't feel, Wanna hold on and feel I belong. And how can the world want me to change, They’re the ones that stay the same. They can’t see me, But I’m still here.
They can’t tell me who to be, ‘Cause I’m not what they see. And the world is still sleepin’, While I keep on dreamin’ for me. And their words are just whispers And lies that I’ll never believe.
And I want a moment to be real, Wanna touch things I don't feel, Wanna hold on and feel I belong. And how can they say I never change They’re the ones that stay the same. I’m the one now, ‘Cause I’m still here.
I’m the one, ‘Cause I’m still here. I’m still here. I’m still here. I’m still here.

{Post anticroas, pre Devs death}
[Kes] This guy could save the world with both hands behind his back And still emerge with ten times the courage that others lack
I'm sick of wallowing here in my own self pity Feet in the countryside, head in the city
Tall buildings bright lights bright cars, But more importantly more importantly that's where you are
I'll send you postcards from my head, Thinking bout you while my cheeks go red
You're not a ghost but you feel like one right now But you can haunt me if you like
CHORUS I need some help to complete this task, Want you here beside me is that too much to ask? I'm haunted here, without you dear, I'll tell you this as I whisper in your ear and say, There's always another day
[Dev] Someone once said, that a story once told That these streets these streets are paved with gold But unless you're standing on them, or sitting on your throne They mean nothing to me, nothing to me, nothing but stone
Maybe you'll never know just how i feel, Maybe you'll never know maybe thats the appeal But walls look weird without you sitting on top Never meant to start and now I can't stop
You're not a ghost but you feel like one right now But you can haunt me if you like
I need some help to complete this task, Want you here beside me is that too much to ask? I'm haunted here, without you dear, I'll tell you this as I whisper in your ear and say, There's always another day
[Kes] If you always go slow than you'll probably never fall [Dev] but if you never go fast than you'll never feel tall [Kes] If you always go slow than you'll never get hurt, [Dev] but if you never go fast you'll never feel on top of the world x2
[Both] You're not a ghost But you can haunt me if you like
I need some help to complete this task, Want you here beside me is that too much to ask? I'm haunted here, without you dear, I'll tell you this as I whisper in your ear and say, There's always another day
[Kes] This sounds like a love song but its not, Cause in the end, the girl gets caught And will they be together in the end? [Dev] Well I wish I could tell you that, my friend.
